Descripción de la:
Commissioned by the Monterey Jazz Festival for the 2007 Next Generation Jazz Festival, this chart falls in that small space between Ornette Coleman and Radiohead, with a bevy of odd-metered phrases, several certified 'dominant-free' solo sections and far too many hemiolas to count. After an aggressive Ornette-inspired unison riff in the horns, the tune takes a major left turn with a creepy bass ostinato underneath a crunchy ascending melodic line. Though the tune stays in 4/4 throughout (a remarkable first for Miley), many of the phrases involve oddly accented passages and/or seven or nine bar lengths. This is one great fun for the rhythm section and has some flexible solo space for alto, tenor, trumpet, tbone, drums and/or piano/guitar.
