One of the few sacred vocal works by the English Romantic Kitson is the Mass in D for two sopranos presented here, the second of which is predominantly in the mezzo register. The distinguished and dignified work is one of the few Latin ordinaries composed in England before the Second World War. Both voices are equally and independently led and, together with the organ accompaniment, result in an expressive movement in the sound garb of the (early) Romantic period. A grateful expansion of the repertoire, which is also possible and worthwhile in choral interpretation.
