Thorbjoern Egner's immortal story about Cardamom City has delighted children and adults since the book was published in 1955. The book became very popular and a play, own songs and record releases followed in the years after publication. The book is considered one of the most important Norwegian children's books. Many people probably also associate "Kardemomme By" with Kristiansand Zoo, where an exact copy according to Egner's drawings was built and opened in 1991.
