Pribaoutki is a cycle of four folk-song style pieces, written in 1914 to texts by the famous collector of Russian folk stories and fairy tales, Alexander Afanasyev. They are scored for Voice and 8instruments:Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass. Originally intended for Baritone, they are suitable for performance by a Mezzo-Soprano.
Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) was born and brought upin SaintPetersburg, before settling first in Paris and finally in America. Despite his classical musical education, he is best remembered as one of the main proponents of serialism.
