In the summer of 1785, Friedrich Schiller wrote a first draft of his 'Ode to Joy' in Leipzig, which later became world famous when Ludwig van Beethoven set it to music in 1824 in the fourth movement of his 9th Symphony. Today, Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy' is one of the most beloved works of classical music in the world, a festive and imposing music that is an expression of joy, fellowship, protest and thanksgiving. Peter Schindler's groovy arrangement of Schiller's and Beethoven's ode for choir and piano, or optionally for choir, band and winds, represents all of these emotions. Wind riffs, jazzy harmonies, a one- to three-part choral movement and a text adaptation that includes not only brothers but also sisters are a highlight for special musical moments, in which the whole audience can sing along at the end!
