Descripción de la:
This setting of a war poem by Charles Hamilton Sorleys was composed for Genesis Sixteen and performed at the 2015 Cumnock Tryst, James MacMillan's own music festival in Ayrshire, Scotland, to commemorate Sorley's untimely death at the Battle of Loos in 1915, in which he was killed at just 20 years old. Sorley was born in Scotland and educated in England. When World War I broke out, he was in Germany for further studies.
A homophonically set, expressive setting of a secular and even-handed text that is, of course, particularly well suited to concert programs as part of World War I commemorations.
