Preface by Angelo Gilardino
Lucio Matarazzo studied with E. Caliendo at the Conservatory 'D. Cimarosa' in Avellino (Italy), where he graduated 'summa cum laude'. Then he studied with O. Ghiglia, J. Tomás and, subsequently, A. Gilardino, graduating at the 'L. Perosi' Academy (Biella, Italy), where he received the rare honour of Special Mention.
He played for 20 years as a member of the outstanding Fragnito- Matarazzo guitar duo that won many international competitions, edited works by Dodgson, Piazzolla, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Ruiz-Pipò, Farkas and made several recordings.
His solo monographic CDs with works by Carcassi, Legnani and Giuliani have been internationally acclaimed.
He is a founder member of the acclaimed GuitArt Quartet, one of the most original and inventive guitar ensembles performing anywhere today. The GQ has premiered works with orchestra dedicated to them, such as Concerto Italiano by A. Gilardino, Concierto Italico and Gismontiana by L. Brouwer and Concerto Rapsodico by G. Drozd and has recorded several CDs, and together with L. Brouwer, the DVD Diario Italico which includes the world première of Concierto Italico, conducted by the Composer.
