In recent times, the slide guitar has become an important addition to the Indian music with its uncanny knack for approximating the nuances of the human voice. The improvisatory possibilities of the guitar are very well suited to the raga and tala systems of the Hindustani tradition, and Debashish Bhattacharya has become one of India's leading concert guitarists.
In this special concert presentation, Bhattacharya is accompanied by tabla master Kumer Bose in a performance that captures both the subtlety and astonishing virtuosity inherent in the Hindustani tradition. His guitar is modified with sympathetic resonant strings, and the occasion takes place at Max Muller Bhawan, one of Calcutta's best known concert halls.
