Vieuxtemps' 8th Violin Concerto, dedicated to Eugène Ysaye, could not be completed by him before his death, the autograph sketches have been lost, and only a contemporary transcript of the piano reduction of the first movement has been preserved, which was published in that form in 1883. For the thoroughly revised new edition by the Weimar pedagogue Olaf Adler, Christoph Baumgarten has written an orchestration which takes Vieuxtemps' style of instrumentation into account and brings Vieuxtemps' great, expressive ideas to their full effect.
