This edition completes our series of all three clarinet concertos by the Swedish composer and clarinetist Bernhard Henrik Crusell. It appeared as his first printed work in Leipzig in 1811, but was certainly composed quite a few years earlier. With its elegant opening movement and simple, moving Adagio, it is perhaps the most "Mozartian" of his three concertos, with the concluding Rondo reminiscent of Carl Maria von Weber. A charming work between the Classical and Romantic periods, the editor and clarinetist Nicolai Pfeffer now presents it on the basis of the first edition. The easily playable piano reduction has been newly prepared by Johannes Umbreit on the basis of the original orchestral parts.
