Guilmant succeeded Widor as organ teacher at the Conservatoire de Paris; and one of his students was Marcel Dupré. His standing among organists is unquestionable. As a composer; he wrote and arranged almost exclusively for his own instrument; and made frequent use of regional Christmas songs; carols; and noëls.
