With his composition 'A Sign for Freedom - Ein Zeichen für die Freiheit' (anthem for wind orchestra) the young Austrian composer Thomas Asanger sets a musical sign for peace and freedom. The willingness to help the streams of refugees from various crisis areas, which has become especially visible in Germany and Austria, becomes a sign for more tolerance and solidarity, especially in a time of increasing racism. 'A Sign for Freedom' stands as a symbol for putting the common before the divisive and overcoming (national) borders.
This composition by Thomas Asanger can be performed by two or more orchestras in double choir or in traditional wind band instrumentation. It thus lives up to its content claim of uniting people from different national, cultural and religious backgrounds. 'A Sign for Freedom' is dedicated to Stadtmusik Maissau (Austria) and Musikverein Warthausen e.V. (Germany) and was premiered on the occasion of a joint anniversary concert on November 7, 2015.
