Just as 'Va pensiero' can be regarded as a sort of second Italian national anthem, so 'The Battle Hymn of the Republic' is a second anthem in the USA, capable of uniting Americans from every state and rousing their sense of patriotism. This arrangement was designed to be performed by the 'Banda dell'Esercito' to mark an important occasion: the first anniversary of the terror attacks of 11 September 2001. The event was held at the American Embassy in Rome and was attended by political leaders and celebrities from the world of culture and entertainment, all of whom sang it together, in chorus.
