Written in a dramatic idiom, this is a serious contemporary work employing serial techniques. The composer uses a predetermined series of notes throughout the composition to enhance the chordal and rhythmic structure. The opening chorale gives way to a pulsating rhythmic figure in the brass and percussion sections that is decorated by swiftly moving woodwind figures. The work comes to a conclusion with a return of the first seven note series in a robust canon.
