Although Divertimento For Flute is in one movement it is comprised of a lyrical introduction followed by a scherzando with varying rhythms. Some of the melodic elements of the introduction appear in a slightly modified form at the end mingling with the thematic material of the scherzo, bringing the piece to a logical conclusion. The soloist gets the chance to demonstrate every aspect of modern flute playing virtuosity.
