This evocative piece takes its name from the American river that flows through striking scenery where the landscape is characterised by impressive canyons and violent rapids: Red River. With the force of a rushing torrent, the piece starts with a charming Western-flavour melody in five-four time. This is soon replaced by the central adagio, which portrays the river as it flows slowly across the plane, before once again gathering speed as it nears the sea, leading into the finale.
A journey with the waters of the Red River that lead us through the splendid landscapes of the canyons to the plains that lead the waters to the sea.
