Fortunately, nature has arranged that - in the long - run we remember the positive things more than the negative ones. Beautiful memories never fade and stay with us for life. And if on top of that a little melancholy is involved, this little sting of pain makes the memory all the more precious.
Lars Ericsen's composition 'Sweet Memory' reflects this emotional situation. He does not focus on things that happened (past events), but on the inner emotional situation of the person remembering. The intimacy of the process - the person remembering is completely alone with him- or herself - is expressed through the use of a solo instrument, which in a sense leads an inner self-talk.
The solo part was written for trombone, but can also be played by baritone, euphonium or horn if required. (Transpositions are included in the edition.) The soloist will not be overly challenged by the technique and can therefore concentrate on a most sensitive expression in the performance. Create a 'sweet memory' with this beautiful melody, that you and your listeners will hopefully remember positively for a long time.
