Grieg is the most important Norwegian composer in the national-romantic period and then who had the greatest international success and respect. He became completely into the Norwegian folk-music and have a great success to give the folk-tunes and dances, this outstanding, but 'strong-lightened pearls' an artistic setting. In the last period of his production he compose some of the most beautiful and best works, include the four symphonic dances. In no.4 he use the famous folk-tune 'sag du nakke til kjaerringa mi' and give this tune a brilliant thematic treatment. This dance gives the musicians a challenge in expression and temper.
