An der schönen blauen Donau (The Blue Danube Waltz) has had more success as a concert waltz than in the original choral version: since its victorious performance at the World Exhibition in Paris (1867) it has achieved fame world-wide. In Austria An der schönen blauen Donau has even become an unofficial anthem. At the traditional New Year's concert given by the Vienna Philharmonic, this waltz-along with Radetzky March by Johann Strauss the Elder-is always played as an encore.
