Alexey Shor was born in Ukraine in 1970, immigrated to Israel in 1991, and now lives primarily in the USA. His compositions have been heard at some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including 'Wiener Musikverein', 'Berlin Philharmonie', 'Carnegie Hall', 'The Concertgebouw', 'Barbican' and many others.
His composition 'Verdiana' (Fantasy on themes by Giuseppe Verdi), set for Clarinet or Alto Saxophone solo was written in 2017. It's a musical tribute to Giuseppe Verdi that takes some of the Italian composer's most famous melodies and re-imagines them in the styles of Samba, Bossa Nova and Tango.
The three movements are: 'Il Sambatore', 'Un Bossa in Maschera' and 'Don Tangoletto'. 'Verdiana' has been performed by some of the best clarinetists in the world, including Andreas Ottensamer, Paul Meyer, Boris Allakhverdyan, Shirley Brill, and many others.
Dutch arranger Gerard Posch transcribed 'Verdiana' for Clarinet or Alto Saxophone solo and Symphonic Band.
