Weronika Ratusinska wrote Divertimento in the first years of her studies, demonstrating compositional creativity and an ease in working with a large string ensemble. In this piece, echoes can be heard of Gershwin, Balkan folk music, and court dance music. Divertimento does not, though, present itself as an eclectic mass of ideas but, thanks to skill in conducting of the musical narrative, is a coherent and thoroughly original creation.
