Descripción de la:
Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) wrote a song cycle in 1894 for men's chorus a capella called Rakastava (The Lover), based on a Finnish text from a collection of folk poems called the Kanteletar. He composed the work for entry in a local competition where he took second prize, losing to his former teacher. The work is better known, however, in the form of the transcription he completed between 1911-1912 for string orchestra, timpani, and triangle, to which he assigned the opus number 14. While the original song cycle is structured with four movements, the transcription for string orchestra includes only three. Movements: 1. Rakastava (Der Liebende; The Lover), 2. Rakastetun tie (Der Weg der Geliebten; The Path of the lover), 3. Hyvää iltaa ... Jää hyvästi (Good Evening... Farewell). Instrumentation: Timp.Tri: Str (8-8-5-5-5 in set).
