Descripción de la:
Leipziger Ausgabe der Werke von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy: Gesamtausgabe Serie V (Bühnenwerke) Band 9
Gesamtausgabe (Koch, Armin) - Serie V (Bühnenwerke) - Vol. 9: 'Athalia' by Racine (op. 74) MWV M 16
Athalia, work in progress Mendelssohn's 'Athalia', i.e. his music to Racine's tragedy 'Athalie', occupies a special position among his dramatic music. The composer first set the original French text to music (LMA V/9A), then gradually expanded the concept for the German version and, in particular, reworked the final chorus several times for the first performance in 1845. It was not published during the composer's lifetime: thus, despite Mendelssohn's notorious self-criticism, a last-hand version does not exist. Armin Koch has accepted the editorial challenge and clarified all questions concerning the authentic form of the work with great expertise.
