Orchestration:
2 Flutes (2nd doubling piccolo), 1 Piccolo, 2 Oboes (or Clarinets), 2 Clarinets in Bb (in lieu of Oboes),
2 Bassoons (or 1 if horn present), Horn in F (in lieu of Bassoon 1), 2 Trumpets in Bb, 3 Trombones,
Percussion (Side drum, Tenor drum, Bass drum, Tambourine, Claves, Glockenspiel)
Strings (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Bass)
This set of six dances taken from 'Terpsichore' by Michael Praetorius includes music used in the BBC dramatisation of the 'Six Wives of Henry VIII'. This suite was first performed by the North Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra in 1975; it received its first broadcast the following year on Radio 3 when it was performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by Ashley Lawrence; this demonstrates that it is suitable for various types and standards of orchestra! The Clarinet parts double the oboe parts and may be omitted. The Horn part doubles the Bassoon 1 part. If there is only one bassoon present and a horn, the bassoon shouldtherefore play the 2nd part. A CD recording is available on the ASV CD 'British by Arrangement'.
Duration: 15 minutes
A PACK comprises one full score, string parts 4/4/3/4/2 and any wind, brass and percussion parts.
