Descripción de la:
The work Fin de nuit for piano and orchestra, which Boesmans began to work on in June 2017 during the rehearsals for Pinocchio in Aix-en-Provence, was created in a similar way, only to be completed in the last days of August 2018. It is dedicated to David Kadouch and the Orchester Philharmonique Royal of Liège, which it commissioned, and consists of two parts. The first, 'Dernier rêve', is played only by the orchestra and is based on an ascending major third, plays with pauses, a slow tempo and (almost) nothing in terms of sound; it is the description of a light sleep between two dreams at dawn, and the chromatic tremors, the subtle appearance and disappearance of sounds are sometimes reminiscent of the fearful passages of the birds in the ninth scene of Pinocchio. In the second part, 'Envols', the mischief returns with the motif of the descending - and this time minor - third, which characterizes the figure of Pinocchio, and the virtuoso outbursts and brilliant cadenzas of the piano appear in a whirlwind scherzo mixed with the empathic or antagonistic echoes of the orchestra. Every now and then, in one of these context changes, which are characteristic of Boesmans tonal language, a reminiscence from the first part appears - does slumber return? As if it were an 'orchestral opera', a plot unfolds in Fin de nuit: The sleeper romps around with his psyche.
