Descripción de la:
Orchestration: 2 Flutes, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets in Bb, 2 Bassoons, 2 Horns in F, 2 Trumpets in Bb, 3 Trombones (2 tenor, 1 bass)[optional]
Timpani (4), Percussion (2 players: Triangle, Snare Drum, Clash Cymbals, Tambourine, Maracas, Glockenspiel)
Strings (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, Bass)
Originally composed in 2006 while I was living on the island of Mallorca, this Sinfonietta is imbued with a healthy heady optimism. There is perhaps a feeling of the 'Englishman abroad' about it; embracing life in the warmth and glow of this most beautiful of Mediterranean islands.
Alas, the piece was never performed, but always remained a favourite of mine, so during the winter months of 2016/17 I decided to give it another go and re-scored it using a slightly reduced Orchestration:. In essence I've cleaned it up and created a more well balanced and finely tuned work.
There are three movements with the two outer ones overflowing with rhythmic vitality, warmth and even humour, but also relishing in the moments of high drama. The slow central waltz is a passionate piece inspired by the film, 'Imagining Argentina', a poignant portrayal of the lives of those with differing political, religious, or sexual orientations; hiding their identities and meeting in secret for fear of persecution during the Pinochet regime. 'Paul Carr'
