Descripción de la:
Ramey's 'Piano Fantasy' develops variationally from a few motives and is much concerned with declamatory statements and the movement of often dense harmonic masses. It is neither truly atonal nor serial, although both of these schools of composition had an influence on it.
The piece falls into four sections, an exposition with variations, a scherzo, an expressive interlude and a finale with further variations. The piano writing is mainly extremely difficult; this was necessary to achieve the impression of a 'concerto without orchestra'. The piece is 10-11 minutes long.
