This revised edition of Robert Schumann's "Waldszenen op. 82" offers pianists a high-quality and user-friendly version of this fascinating piano cycle. In nine character pieces, Schumann transports players and listeners into a musical forest landscape. The sequence of the pieces shows Schumann's striving for a symmetrical architecture of the cycle: the first piece "Eintritt" corresponds with the last "Abschied", the second "Jäger auf der Lauer" with the penultimate "Jagdlied". The third piece, "Lonely Flowers," is also thematically related to the third-to-last piece, "Bird as Prophet," since both depict living nature. The "Verrufene Stelle" as an uncanny place contrasts with the homely "Herberge". These pieces are grouped around the fifth piece "Friendly Landscape" as an axis of symmetry. This edition makes it possible to experience and interpret the beauty and complexity of Schumann's forest scenes.
