The Fieberduett is a work commissioned by Klangforum for young saxophonists who deal with contemporary music. Gerald Preinfalk has deliberately composed this short piece in an easy-to-play way, so that the hurdle to the new techniques used here is almost playful. The piece bears its unusual name on the one hand because around this time of composing a cabaret artist friend christened his new program "Fever Monologue" - on the other hand, because Preinfalk actually completed the piece in a fever.
