The Baden-Württemberg district of Unterkochen derives its name historically from the so-called Kocherburg. This first appears in the 11th century as a prehistoric fortification. In 1136 there is the first mention of the Lords of Kochen, who in all probability had their seat there. Over the centuries - especially during the Thirty Years' War - the Kocherburg was almost completely destroyed. Even though today only remnants remind us of its existence, the Kocherburg has lost none of its influence. Today it is still a destination for people from the region. Enthusiastic visitors enjoy the appearance of the Kocherburg while walking and hiking. A special experience for young and old alike. The combination of historical and contemporary significance is expressed in the composition "Aura Castrum". On the one hand, some melodies are reminiscent of the Middle Ages, while others bring out the charismatic appeal of this beautiful place.
"Aura Castrum" was commissioned from Austrian composer Thomas Asanger on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Musikverein Unterkochen and was premiered in 2023.
This composition was created with the help of a contribution from the Music Investment Fund, an initiative of Buma/Stemra in cooperation with Voi(C)e, the Copyright Interests Federation and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science in the Netherlands.
